Customer Spotlight: Stephen Russell of Lilburn, Georgia

Stephen Russell has served in his local EMS squad and neighboring town for over 20 years. He still uses his Motorola HT1000 radio which is over 31 years old! He recently bought a Motorola HT1000 from us to use as an additional take-home radio. As soon as he received it, he programmed the radio and began using it. He then wrote in an online review of his purchase, “the radio being used and over 29 years old was in beautiful condition…it worked flawlessly.” We saw the review and reached out to Stephen for his permission to share his story.

Why we are excited by Stephen’s experience:

There aren’t many portable electronic items that can withstand the abuse of public service for 29 days – never mind 31 years! And there are even less that survived technological obsolescence over this time. Stephen’s story highlights that despite the advances in wireless technology over the past three decades, century-old analog communication remains applicable today. And moreover, to its credit, Motorola made and still makes ultra reliable equipment – certainly more reliable the phones in our pockets.

We are entering a new era of digital wireless technologies that will bring many benefits to how we communicate. However, the simple analog point-to-point technology of the past century will still be relevant for the next 100 years.

For those in the North Georgia area, Stepehen is member of the North Georgia GMRS network (the largest in the U.S.), so say hello to him when you can.

Congratulations to Stephen for his nearly 30 years of dedicated public service - and being the best of part of Haloid!

Above are pictures of Stephen then and now. His original HT1000 radio and the one he purchased from us is below.
