Disaster Prep with a 56' Mobile Communication Tower and Trailer

One of the more exciting aspects of working at Haloid is our access to all types of communications equipment. Towards that end, meet this 56’ military-grade mobile tower we received from a defense contractor. The tower returned from Afghanistan last year where it was used to support their operations. And today, it’s looking for a new home.

I think many hams might consider this item the ultimate toy, but we believe it’s best suited to support field-deployable emergency communications. The recent Hurricane in Florida not only flooded western and central Florida, but it also wiped out entire wireless communication networks. Having a tower like this available, will ensure terrestrial and satellite-linked wireless communication if disaster strikes.
According to its specs, the tower can be deployed by one person in less than an hour. But the company’s video shows two, so we suggest at least two. Moreover, a generator is required to raise the tower, so you’ll need to budget that as well. These towers are not complicated like cars, and generally last decades, but some upkeep will be required.

With an original cost of well over $100K, we’ve priced this tower at a bargain price for the buyer who needs it. If it’s a ham that ultimately buys it, then they will definitely have “one upmanship” amongst their local amateur community. But we’re betting it will end up support emergency communications somewhere soon.
